If there's ever a time to make a big, dramatic change to your look, it's while you're sitting front row at the Gucci show during Milan Fashion Week, with an adorable teeny dog in your lap. Okay, so most of us don't exactly have that kind of high-fashion access, but Demi Moore does, and she hit up Demna's much-anticipated first runway show looking like a Gucci dream in a sleek, chic wet-look bob.

When you think of the Oscar-nominated actor, you probably think about her long, straight, free-flowing dark hair, but her long hair was nowhere in sight in Milan. Instead, the The Substance star swapped it for a swingy cropped cut that fell just below her jawline, crafted by hairstylist Dimitris Giannetos. (The two apparently call it a “Demi-tris bob,” which is cute.)

Giannetos styled the bob to look as though Moore just stepped out of the shower or had a dip in the pool, with lots of wet, piece-y texture. When paired with her black leather jacket, pants, and face-shielding sunglasses, the look was futuristic but also a little Y2K, like Moore was hanging out on the set of The Matrix. In short, it fit right in with Demna's design aesthetic.

“I wanted to give Demi a very bold and fashion forward look for Demna’s show. It is inspired by the silhouettes of the new collection," Giannetos shared. “I felt an amazing, short, above-the-shoulder bob with this very sleek wet texture would be perfect to complement her look. It’s a big change for Demi—we’ve never seen her like this before! She looks very cool, effortless and modern. And it highlights her personality.”

To replicate the look, you'll need a good hair gel for that defined, damp effect—but you'll have to find your own version of Pilaf the dog.

Moore is a Gucci gal, so we weren't surprised to see her sitting front row at the show. Last year, she even starred in a short film for the brand, playing a character named Barbara Gucci; Barbara Gucci didn't have a bob, but she did have curtain bangs! While we highly doubt that Moore has permanently ditched her long hair, it's so fun to see her change things up in such a major way. Wait… Do I want a bob now?

ICYMI, the internet is currently obsessed with frosted lipstick, and Willow Smith just put the coolest twist on the pearlescent lip look at Paris Fashion Week. Or shall we say, the most golden twist?

Smith, a Dior Beauty ambassador, is one of our favorite front-row attendees, so we were on high alert for her at the fall/winter 2026/2027 show. And as always, her glam details did not disappoint. The musician brought a little Y2K-futuristic energy to Dior with her makeup, most notably that unmistakable frosty, pearly texture so popular in the late '90s and early 2000s—an aesthetic experiencing a major resurgence today.

Her lips were lined with a dark greige liner, but instead of a pale pink, prismatic pastel, or shimmery beige lip color, Smith opted for a color-changing gold that flashed with metallic champagne tones in one light, and warm, fiery orange in another, depending on the angle. If you zoom in on the pic below, you’ll see how precisely the golden tones are layered, with the orange shade concentrated in the center of Smith's lips and the pale gold applied around the perimeter.

The musician, who just released her seventh studio album, Petal Rock Black, kept the rest of her makeup simple, with long, wispy lashes and subtle reverse cat-eye black liner under her lower lash line, extending just past the outer corner of her eyes. Smith wore her hair in braids and accessorized with a lip piercing, glasses, and delicate hoop earrings.

The last time we saw Smith sitting front row at Dior was fall 2025, when she attended the spring/summer show wearing a stacked, braided updo and pale, baby blue eye shadow diffused all over her lids and up to her browbone. Spring may be on the way, but as Smith's Paris Fashion Week makeup proves, there's still some frost in the forecast—and that's a good thing!

Why you’ll love it: There are goopy and too-glossy lip glosses, and then there is the perfection that is Lady Gaga’s take on the classic. It feels cushy and hydrating, imparts sheer mauve-y color that’s great for a natural vibe, and has a radiant finish for juicy, healthy-looking lips.

How you’ll use it: You don’t have to be so precious about this formula because it’s sheer and forgiving. Smooth it on with the doe-foot applicator and you’re good to go.

Rose Inc Cream Blush Refillable Cheek & Lip Color in Foxglove, Hydrangea, Azalea, or Heliotrope

Image may contain Head Person Face Ping Pong Ping Pong Paddle Racket and Sport

Why you’ll love it: Pack up your powder—it’s cream blush season! Higher temps call for some glow, and this two-in-one, melts-into-your-skin rouge gives cheeks and lips an instant flush with a pretty, sheen-like finish. (You chose one of the four gorgeous shades above to receive in your box.)

How you’ll use it: Inside this refillable compact, you’ll find a velvety formula that can be applied with your fingertips or a dome-shaped brush (or both!) with a quick swirl and a tap. Although the color payoff is impressive, it’s also buildable, so repeat until you reach your desired look.

    Retail price: $32

    Grown Alchemist Soothing Hand Cream

Image may contain Bottle Shampoo Lotion Cricket Cricket Bat and Sport

Why you’ll love it: Your hands need TLC year-round, not just when it’s cold. This hydrating treatment douses dry digits (and palms and cuticles) with nourishing aloe and grape seed oil, plus moisture-locking glycerin and sodium hyaluronate.

How you’ll use it: Squirt two generous dollops of cream onto the tops of hands, then massage (from nails to wrists) until completely soaked in. Toss into any bag and take it on the go, plus the chic aluminum tube is TSA-friendly!

Wakse Scented Hair Removal Cream in Guava Butter or Mango Magic

Image may contain Bottle Lotion Cosmetics and Perfume

Why you’ll love it: Depilatory creams are best known for removing body hair—often with an unbearable rotten-egg smell. Not this one. The thick lotion safely dissolves hair with tropical scents reminiscent of smoothies, not sulfur, and leaves skin feeling soft and smooth.

How you’ll use it: Pump the paste-like formula directly onto clean, dry skin, and then rub into hair using your fingertips. For the face, leave on for two to three minutes, and five to eight minutes for the body before removing. Wipe away and rinse.

    Retail price: $20

    Blossom Essentials Hydration Oil

Image may contain Bottle Cosmetics and Perfume

Why you’ll love it: Dermatologists recommend lightening your lotion load in the spring, and this silky face elixir makes for a pleasant replacement. Made with a cocktail of nourishing seed oils (jojoba, rosehip, and marula), the antioxidant-rich hydrator deeply moisturizes with a delicate touch and feel, and a surprisingly fast dry-down.

How you’ll use it: Use the dropper to squeeze a dime-size amount into palms before gently dabbing onto freshly cleansed, damp skin. Afterwards, you’ll notice an immediate (and gorgeous!) glow.

    Retail price: $34

Tru Skn Sculpted Lip Liner in Mulberry

Image may contain Cosmetics and Lipstick

Why you’ll love it: Despite its look, shape, and feel, this liner is for lips—not eyes. The twisty, retractable pencil glides onto Cupid’s bows just as easily as its lid-friendly counterparts but with a creamier, soft-matte texture.

How you’ll use it: For best results, hold the pencil at a slight angle (instead of straight-on) while outlining and filling in. Wear solo or under your favorite gloss for added shine and a touch of moisture.

    Retail price: $25

Skinfood Carrot Carotene Calming Water Pad

Image may contain Carrot Food Plant Produce and Vegetable

Why you’ll love it: Toners aren’t what they used to be 10 or 20 years ago—and that’s a good thing. Gone are the days of harsh, alcohol-based treatments that strip skin. In, are hydrating formulas that soothe and plump, like these pre-soaked cotton pads made with carrot root extract and glycerin.

How you’ll use it: After cleansing, place sheets directly onto cheeks or forehead. Leave on for 5 to 10 minutes, snap a selfie, and then pat in the excess essence.

Retail price: $19 for 60 pads (2 pads included in box)

Lumē Deodorant with Clinical Strength Sweat Control

Image may contain Bottle Cosmetics and Sunscreen

Why you’ll love it: If you prefer aluminum in your deodorant (no shame in the sweat-stopping game), this tiny tube is bound to become a gym, work, and night-out bag staple. The solid stick glides easily onto underarms to prevent perspiration (by plugging glands) for up to 72 hours with a nostalgic, powdery scent.

How you’ll use it: Twist the tube and swipe on…at night. Yes, applying in the p.m. before bed, when your body temperature is low, ensures the formula has plenty of time to fully absorb long before you need it.

Why it’s worth it: This isn’t your average slap-it-on, peel-it-off mask—there’s a little DIY moment that makes it feel more like a fun skin-care experiment. You mix the powder with water yourself, and within seconds it transforms into a cool sherbet-to-jelly texture that spreads easily and sets into a soothing, green-smoothie-for-your-face mask. That cooling effect matters: “Long-term exposure to [heat] can accelerate biological aging, leading to the loss of collagen and elastin in the skin,” which is why this formula is designed to instantly calm overheated, stressed-out skin, says Sarah Chung Park, creator of K-Beauty World at Ulta Beauty based in Los Angeles.

A K-beauty standout, PDRN (here derived from spirulina rather than traditional salmon DNA) helps support skin repair, while marine ingredients provide quick relief and help calm redness and sensitivity—something Park points out “continues to work even after you’ve wiped it off.” Pear fruit, rose water, and lotus root add antioxidant-rich hydration, while gluconolactone (a gentle PHA) smooths texture and hyaluronic acid rehydrates without sting. The result is skin that feels calmer, bouncier, and refreshed, which is especially welcome after sun exposure, post-procedure, or anytime skin feels sensitized.

"What's better than a soothing face mask? A fun, soothing face mask. Sure, it's a little more time-consuming to do the actual mixing, but it signals to my brain to take a beat, slow down, and invest in my self-care. I love how freaking cooling sheet masks are, but Some by Mi's PDRN Spirulina Soothing Sherbet Mask's cooling effects are longer-lasting, IMO. My body runs in two extremes, one of which is wildly hot—like, I'm the one awkwardly taking off my coat in the subway car because I'm overheating and sweating. This really soothes my sensitized skin and leaves my complexion feeling baby-soft and smooth. By the way, one packet produces way too much gel for one application—I can get away with using just one-half of a packet and then I clip the packet with the other half for another day." —Sarah Han, commerce editor

Why it's worth it: You might wonder how a mask could possibly stay on all night without getting serum all over your pillow, but Biodance's Bio-Collagen Real Deep Mask is different: The gel-like consistency makes it far less “juicy” than your typical sheet mask. It goes on opaque, then slowly turns transparent as it absorbs and dries, which is your cue that it’s done its job. Whether you wear it until morning or peel it off after a solid 3–4 hours (hello, WFH perks), Biodance's Bio-Collagen Real Deep Mask delivers lasting hydration that parched skin craves. Its ultra-low molecular weight collagen and oligo hyaluronic acid allow for deeper penetration of all that hydrating, plumping goodness. Y. Claire Chang, MD, a board-certified cosmetic dermatologist based in New York City, confirms this mask's popularity, adding, "It leaves the skin more glowy and hydrated for hours after application."

"I love this mask for both overnight use and daytime self-care breaks (when I don’t have any Zoom meetings). The jelly-like sheet can be a little delicate and prone to tearing, but once it sets, it clings so well that a few hours in, it’s a tad hard to move your face, which is exactly why it's so effective to lock in the formula. By morning, my skin feels deeply hydrated and looks gorgeously glowy, making it totally worth the effort to stay still in my sleep.” —Christa Joanna Lee, contributing commerce writer

Why it's worth it: Peel-off masks rank up there with nose strips in the “oddly-satisfying” category of beauty products, and while this one is undeniably fun to remove, the coolest part is what it does for your skin. The Knours PDRN Rice & Green Tea Glowing Peel Off Mask uses a plant-based twist on traditional PDRN (usually a salmon-derived repair ingredient), tapping fermented rice PDRN and green tea PDRN to deliver similar benefits—think skin-barrier repair, soothing, sebum control, and texture refinement. It’s also loaded with brightening and hydrating favorites like rice ferment filtrate (sake), multiple weights of hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, and niacinamide to keep your skin smooth, bouncy, and noticeably glowier in just 20 minutes (though it works even harder overnight).

My skin gets to absorb all of this goodness that hydrates, strengthens my barrier, and brighten skin, in just 20-ish minutes—and it's the perfect prep for my serum and moisturizer to absorb and work even harder. Inside, you’ll find all the good stuff ideal for aging skin: jujube extract to support your moisture barrier, pomegranate extract for antioxidant protection, ginseng for radiance, plus squalane and shea butter to keep everything hydrated and cushiony. It sinks in quickly and never feels sticky, so you’re not going to bed with your skin feeling coated in product. Still, come morning, just rinse with lukewarm water and skip the cleanser. Why it’s worth it: If sheet masks never quite sit right—or you don’t have time for anything that requires rinsing—this one’s for you. Menokin’s Collagen Bubble Mask foams up in about 30 seconds, then sinks straight into skin with zero mess or washing off. Instead of fabric sitting on your face, the airy foam creates tiny bubbles that expand and collapse, gently pressing the formula into the skin so ingredients can make closer contact with pores and fine lines, and absorb more efficiently. The instant glow comes from ultra-low molecular vegan hibiscus collagen, which helps improve elasticity, visibly refine pores, and smooth the look of fine lines. Madecassoside (derived from cica) supports the skin barrier and helps calm and refine texture, while niacinamide brightens uneven tone and boosts radiance. It’s a fun, shortcut to plumper, glowier skin with just a few seconds of effort.

“The moment I saw this bubble mask in Olive Young, I knew I had to get it. I love a sensorial skin-care product and K-beauty always nails that category. Not only does it melt into your skin in 30 seconds, you don't even need to wash it off—how simple for someone who's already running late…and taking work-related content at the very last minute. (Guilty.) The instant satisfaction of my glowing, hydrated skin is unmatched. I love sheet masks, but they often slip and slide across your face, feel heavy, and take at least 20 minutes (don't get me started on the multi-hour/overnight masks—I simply won't do them!) to do their thing. Whatever gets me masking more regularly is what wins in my book. Hydration is king!” —Sarah Han, commerce editor

Why it’s worth it: Sungboon Editor’s Deep Collagen Power Boosting Mask is made from bio-cellulose, a gel-like material that clings to skin like a second skin—hugging the contours of your face instead of slipping around like a typical cotton sheet mask might. That close fit helps the formula absorb more efficiently, especially the star ingredient: micro-collagen. Unlike traditional collagen, which mostly sits on the surface, micro-collagen is broken down into smaller fragments that can better penetrate the upper layers of the skin, plumping, smoothing, and hydrating without feeling heavy. It’s a great match for sensitive skin thanks to Centella asiatica to calm redness, allantoin and panthenol to support repair, and multiple forms of hyaluronic acid for long-lasting moisture. Tea tree helps keep oil balanced, while ceramides and peptides strengthen the barrier for a cushioned, healthy-looking glow.

“Sheet masks can feel overwhelming to me, but I genuinely look forward to using this one. The jelly texture is a nice change from the usual fabric sheet mask, and it feels very cooling and soothing on my skin. As it sits, it dries a little, so it's not so drippy-wet. After a few hours, the mask turns clear, so you know when to peel it off. (That process is super-satisfying, by the way.) And the results speak for themselves: My skin feels incredibly soft, smooth, and has that telltale K-beauty glass-skin glow. Trust me, the longer wait time really is worth it—indulge in a short TV marathon, and you'll be glowing in just a few episodes.” —Sarah Felbin, senior commerce editor

“I use this product about once a month or just when I'm having a self care night. I cleanse my face, use toner, then apply the mask and leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes. I love how soft and moisturized it makes my skin feel. It's super gentle and though it doesn't really give my skin any major results it's nice to use. After taking it off I pat in the remaining serum and follow up with a moisturizer. They really don't skim on the serum so the mask can actually be a little too gooey but that's my only qualm." —Annie Blay-Tettey, associate beauty editor

Why it's worth it: Clay masks literally draw out dirt and excess sebum from your pores, which means you get the satisfying look at your pores being singled out once Innisfree's Super Volcanic Pore Clay Mask has dried down. Then there's lactic acid to swiftly remove dead skin cells and increase cell turnover—resulting in brighter, smoother skin. In turn, "increasing cell turnover also reduces clogged pores and the chances of developing acne lesions," Aegean Chan, MD, a board-certified dermatologist in Santa Barbara, California, previously explained. Bonus: Lactic acid has naturally occurring moisturizing properties, so your barrier reaps benefits, too. All in all, this tingly wash-off mask keeps oil, pores, and blackheads in check while soothing the skin—for less than $20.

Why it's worth it: Hanyul's Yuja Vitamin Sleeping Mask smells like it was freshly picked from an orchard—probably because its origins can be traced to the Goheung area of South Korea, where yuja fruit is grown, harvested, and bottled up for your radiance-boosting skin-care desires. The intensely cooling jelly formula is a sensorial delight and absorbs quickly, even if you're heavy-handed like we are. Why it’s worth it: If there’s one ingredient Koreans truly can’t live without, it’s rice—and not just because it’s on the menu at every meal. In K-beauty, rice is a staple for skin that looks smoother, brighter, and more refined. I’m From’s Rice Mask highlights rice sourced from Yeoju, one of Korea’s most respected rice-growing regions, known for its clean water and mineral-rich soil. This is “a gentle Korean wash-off mask,” designed to refine skin without stressing it out, says Park. Beyond the rice, shea butter helps keep skin cushioned and comfortable, while fig fruit extract delivers antioxidants to revive dullness. Park also notes that the mask helps “restore a radiant and nourished complexion,” making it a go-to when skin needs softness, glow, and balance without harsh exfoliation.

Why it’s worth it: Laneige’s Lip Sleeping Mask may have held the top spot as our favorite overnight lip mask for years, but long before that hit shelves, the brand launched the original Water Sleeping Pack, which has since evolved into today’s Water Sleeping Mask. The lightweight, gel-textured formula works overnight to help skin look brighter, more even, and well-rested by morning, thanks in part to niacinamide, which helps improve uneven tone, boost radiance, and support the skin barrier over time. “It’s a fan-favorite for its ability to flood the skin with hyaluronic acid, squalane, and mineral water to restore moisture balance,” says Christine Hall, MBChB, a general practitioner in medical aesthetics based in London. It doesn’t rely on just one type of hyaluronic acid (HA)—it layers multiple forms that work differently across the skin. The brand describes this as magnetic HA, hyper HA, and cross-linked HA, which essentially means hydration that pulls in, holds onto, and slowly releases moisture over time.

Despite that deep hydration, it “feels weightless,” Hall says, so skin never feels greasy or overloaded. If you want those same benefits with an added firming boost, the brand’s newest collagen- and peony-packed Bouncy & Firm Sleeping Mask is a great pick.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Korean face masks innovative?

"Korean face masks are all about delivering high-performance results that help the skin optimize ingredient absorption," says New York City-based Charlotte Cho, cofounder of K-beauty retailer Soko Glam and founder of Then I Met You. Adding on, Dr. Chang notes they "use advanced and innovative materials, ranging from bio-cellulose and hydrogel to bamboo fiber sheet masks, as well as overnight masks and peel-off masks," adding that the range of mask types makes the experience fun and hands-on for the consumer.

Similar to other skin-care categories, Korean face masks are known to be gentle and supportive to the skin barrier—popular ingredients include Centella asiatica (also known as cica), ceramides, and fermented ingredients, Cho notes. "There's also been a rise in multi-functional actives like PDRN (salmon DNA) for regeneration, Volufiline for plumping, and micro-spicules for deeper penetration—ingredients once reserved for professional treatments and are now found in serums and masks." As for hydration, birch sap and polyglutamic acid are some of the mainstream, tried-and-true ingredients, Cho adds.

What are the different types of Korean face masks?

We broke down the most common types of face masks in an episode of our The Science of Beauty podcast, with the help of David Kim, MD, a board-certified dermatologist based in New York City. There, you'll find everything you need to know about sheet, clay, charcoal, cream, wash-off, sleeping, peel-off, and bubble masks.

How we test and review products

When Allure tests a product, our editors look at it from every angle in an effort to best serve you. We review ingredients, scrutinize brand claims, and, when necessary, examine peer-reviewed scientific and medical studies. In addition to testing each and every product that's included in each and every review, we rely on experts who shape their fields, including dermatology, cosmetic chemistry, and medicine, to help us vet the ingredients and formulas.

For our list of the best Korean face masks to make your skin feel utterly refreshed, we considered each product's performance across five primary categories: product ingredients and efficacy, packaging, fragrance, texture, and product wear. Every product was determined to have excelled in each category by our editorial team, which is composed of in-house writers and editors as well as contributors—along with special consideration from board-certified dermatologists. To learn more information on our reporting and testing processes, read our complete reviews process and methodology page.

    Our staff and testers

A beauty product is a personal purchase. You might be searching for a face cream to address persistent dryness or a new nail product to add to your Sunday self-care routine; you may simply be browsing around for the latest launches to hit the hair market. No matter what you seek or your individual needs and concerns, Allure wants to ensure that you love anything we recommend in our stories. We believe that having a diverse team of writers and editors—in addition to the wide range of outside testers and industry experts we regularly call upon—is essential to reaching that goal.

After all, can we really say a skin-care product is the "best" for people over 50 if the only testers we've solicited opinions from folks who have yet to hit 30? Can we honestly deem a high-end diffuser worthy of your hard-earned cash if it’s never been tested on curls? We're proud that our staff spans a wide range of ages, skin tones, hair textures, genders, and backgrounds, which means that we are able to fairly assess any beauty product that comes into the beauty closet.

Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy Is Not Your Unwitting Brand Ambassador

Carolyn BessetteKennedy in a black coat and John F. Kennedy Jr. in a suitPhoto: Getty ImagesSave StorySave this storySave StorySave this story

Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy died in a plane crash off the coast of Martha’s Vineyard with her husband, John F. Kennedy Jr., and sister, Lauren Bessette, on July 16, 1999. I was 20 years old, which means I was a teenager in the mid-90s as Bessette-Kennedy became a reluctant beauty icon. Her style was seemingly effortless, undeniably enviable, and so unattainable that I—someone whose entire wardrobe came from the Delia’s catalog—felt it pointless to pay it much mind.

But others understandably celebrated her style, and that celebration only intensified after her sudden, horrific death at 33. It was cyclical. Every few years, I’d watch magazines and digital articles re-up interest in her style with shoppable tributes, often based on the designers and brands she was confirmed to have worn: Levi’s 517s, a camel-colored Prada coat, Abdul Kareem Egyptian Musk.

With the launch of Ryan Murphy’s new biographical show, Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette, interest in Bessette-Kennedy has skyrocketed like never before, and the current hunger to recreate her minimalist, anti-trend style has taken on new proportions. No longer is it just about reporting on or referencing the designers and colors and silhouettes that she favored. In recent weeks, brands that didn’t even exist in 1999 are diluting this complex, intelligent woman—who, lest we forget, died tragically—into a tool to sell their stuff without her consent.

Carolyn BessetteKennedy wearing a white buttondown shirtPhoto: Getty Images

Since the show’s premiere earlier this month, beauty editors like myself have been inundated with increasingly tone-deaf email pitches about Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy’s look—to the point that some editors say they’ve gotten dozens over the course of this week. “Channel your inner CBK,” reads one email I received recently about headbands. “The Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy lip is back!” declares another, pitching a lip oil that will help you achieve a “sheen that feels refined and unfussy, just like Carolyn.” Another pitch says her hair color “was the kind of blonde that whispers luxury, rather than shouting for attention—and you can now recreate it with [brand name redacted]!” (The exclamation mark really got me.) And the one that truly sums up what’s making me scowl: a subject line that reads, “Carolyn Bessette Would Have Loved These Skincare Products.”

Perhaps I shouldn’t be surprised that the commodification of Carolyn has spread beyond the inbox and into consumer-facing social media content. Kim Kardashian playfully posed in a blonde wig that her colorist deemed “The Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy Blonde” in the caption (even if that’s not entirely accurate). At least they didn’t use the hashtag #BessetteBlonde, like Schwarzkopf did in an Instagram post about a highlighting technique the brand called “foiled cashmere, inspired by Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy.” (Imagine losing a friend and, years later, seeing their name used for a cutesy, alliterative hashtag to promote a salon service.)

Brands are diluting this complex, intelligent woman—who, lest we forget, died tragically—into a tool to sell their stuff without her consent.

Needless to say, and disappointingly, the pitches are working. Or, if I’m to give them the benefit of the doubt, perhaps they started after the content of questionable tact began showing up in feeds and Google search results. Influencers are posting TikToks and Reels recommending products they think Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy would have used in her morning routine. Digital outlets are posting Amazon affiliate-linked “shop the look” lists.

Here’s the kicker: almost none of the products they’re pushing are ones Bessette-Kennedy ever laid hands on. What are we doing here, guys? It’s one thing for beauty journalists to report on the confirmed details of this beauty icon’s routine (as Allure did recently). It’s another to turn someone who is no longer with us, no matter how stylish and beautiful, into your own personal brand ambassador. These oddly jovial pitches put her public image through a marketing strainer, sometimes promoting products that don’t even align with her aesthetic (or, like lip oils, that didn’t exist when she was alive).

I’ve been on the PR side of beauty, so I understand that turning big cultural moments into “conversions” (aka actual purchases) is part of the process. But as crucial as it may be to find relevant hooks to ignite editors’ and consumers’ interest in products, there is nothing particularly effective about suggesting that a woman who didn’t live to see her 34th birthday would have totally used this new gel sheet mask infused with niacinamide.

It’s par for the publicity course to send “get the look” pitches to editors. Or, in other words, to highlight your clients’ products that seem similar to what a celebrity used (but didn’t). Celebrities—the ones who are alive, anyway—know and must accept, to some extent, that their image is used to sell products they have no affiliation with. (Most of them, of course, also make money from the sale of products with which they do have an affiliation.) It’s a common practice.

But it isn’t a practice that Bessette-Kennedy ever opted into. She was a woman known as much for her consistent, impeccable style as for the high value she put on her privacy. She never used her own image to promote products or gave interviews about her look. Would that have changed if she had lived to see the social media age? Perhaps. Personally, I highly doubt it.

John F. Kennedy Jr. in a tuxedo and Carolyn BessetteKennedy in an offtheshoulder black gownPhoto: Getty Images

It is not a bad thing to want to look like Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with everyday people taking inspiration from her image long after her death, as often happens with public figures who were lost tragically and far too young. There’s a clear line between inspiration and commodification, though, and from where I’m sitting, it’s been beyond crossed.

I don’t purport to know how Bessette-Kennedy would want to be remembered. She’s more than just her untimely death, of course—she was, in fact, an accomplished publicist herself, which makes this entire situation unfortunately ironic. But while I’m sure she would appreciate that she’s one of the most lauded American tastemakers of her time, I doubt she would delight in being boiled down to an Instagram video on the products you need to get her radiant complexion or an email pitch for at-home hair dye.

  • I’ve Tested K-Beauty Products for 15 Years, and These Are the Best for Treating Acne

I’ve Tested K-Beauty Products for 15 Years, and These Are the Best for Treating Acne

A collage of Some by Mi CosRx and I'm From products for acneprone skin on an offwhite backgroundCollage: Jemeria Davison; Source images: Courtesy of brandsSave StorySave this storySave StorySave this story

Acne is rarely caused by just one thing. It’s usually a melting pot of excess sebum, dead skin cells, and a sprinkle of acne-causing bacteria that turns into breakouts. And to make matters more complicated, diet, hormones, genetics, and stress can also play a role.

But after 15 years of studying, testing, and curating Korean skin care—as an esthetician and cofounder of Soko Glam—I’ve learned that Korean skin care has a much more nuanced approach to acne. K-beauty focuses on supporting the skin barrier and calming acne-induced inflammation, rather than stripping the skin and treating it aggressively. It's an approach that has helped not only me, personally, but also countless others.

This philosophy has become more meaningful to me over time. I dealt with acne as a teenager, and then again in my 30s, and I know that I wasn’t alone, as 50% of adults deal with adult acne. Now that I’m 40, I’m a strong advocate for treating acne with gentle intention, cushioning your skin with the right hydration, medicinal botanicals, and even (mini) bandages for your breakouts.

    Calming Medicinal Botanicals

Korean insiders know that soothing ingredients such as mugwort extract and Centella asiatica (commonly referred to as cica) still reign supreme in K-Beauty to help treat inflamed or sensitive skin. Mugwort is another traditional Korean ingredient known to be anti-inflammatory and antibacterial. It not only reduces visible redness but also helps support the skin’s natural healing process.

    Intentional Hydration

One of the biggest lessons Korean beauty teaches us is that dehydration can worsen acne. This can seem counterintuitive, especially for oily, breakout-prone skin, but when skin is stripped, it can lead to a cycle of congestion and breakouts. That’s why I turn to lightweight hydrators that can be layered—I’m talking about toners, essences, and lightweight creams that can bring the skin barrier back to life, so that it can be more balanced and keep acne at bay.

    Patches to the Rescue

So you have a breakout, now what? Sometimes your path to healing faster and with a lower risk of scarring is to treat your pimple like a wound (because it technically is!). Hydrocolloid patches have been a staple in Korean skin-care routines, long before pimple patches became a global trend. They not only create a protective seal over blemishes, but they also absorb excess fluid, in addition to shielding skin from bacteria, picking, and your grimy hands—all important steps to flattening breakouts pronto.

    PHAs Over BHAs

If you haven’t gotten the memo by now, gentleness is king when it comes to treating breakouts in K-beauty. Korean products typically focus on exfoliants that have larger molecular sizes or gentler derivatives, so the ingredients don't penetrate as deeply and cause unnecessary irritation. PHAs, such as gluconolactone, are my favorite exfoliants in Korean skin care that can be used daily for acne-prone skin. Willow bark extract, a natural derivative of salicylic acid (which is a BHA), is my favorite ingredient that offers gentle exfoliation without compromising the skin barrier.

“Too greasy, too shiny, too oily, too chalky—these are all complaints that I hear from my family when I ask them if they are using sunscreen every day. That's when I recommend this Isdin Water Magic formula. It's a chemical sunscreen that goes on like a moisturizer. The finish is not matte, but it won't leave you looking greasy. It absorbs quickly and blends seamlessly into my brown skin with no purple tint. It's the perfect fit for those that hate the idea of sunscreen because of the way it feels. This lightweight option will leave them with no complaints.” —Jessica Cruel, editor in chief

“Supergoop is a top-tier sun-care brand, but the brand really deserves its flowers with its latest creation. Dewscreen is easily my favorite Supergoop product, ever: It’s a true moisturizer-first formula with a boost of SPF, which my dehydrated skin drinks up like that, and there’s just a hint of grippiness that helps my makeup look flawless and stay in place all freaking day and night. Dewscreen makes my skin look like a dewy dumpling—no matter how tired I feel in the morning, it instantly perks up my skin. This silky formula wears beautifully under bases, blushes, and everything in between, and boasts a PA++++ rating (a standard metric for Korean sunscreens). The gist? “The greater the number of plus signs [the max being four], the better the level of protection against UVA rays that visibly age us," Joshua Zeichner, MD, a board-certified dermatologist in New York City, explains. In comparison, the standard measurement of sunscreen strength (the SPF number) measures UVB rays, a.k.a. the shorter wavelengths that cause sunburns.

You’ll also get a nice dose of squalane, niacinamide, and vitamin C to lock in moisture, blur texture, and boost radiance. And pro tip: The cap can be used to measure out the dermatologist-recommended amount of product for the face.

Why it’s worth it: Wearing SPF daily helps ward off early signs of aging like fine lines and wrinkles, and Clinique's Smart Clinical Repair SPF 30 Wrinkle Correcting Cream takes it a step further by pairing broad-spectrum SPF 30 with wrinkle-targeting ingredients that support collagen and smooth the look of skin over time. At its core is a custom peptide complex, which features four different plump-promoting peptides designed to help boost collagen for firmer skin with continued use. Hydrators like hyaluronic acid and glycerin replenish moisture, leaving the skin looking plump and refreshed. A boost of antioxidants, including vitamin D, helps defend skin against free radicals, the molecules that speed up the breakdown of collagen and elastin and contribute to thinner, drier, crepier skin over time. The texture strikes a balance between airy and comforting, absorbs without a greasy residue, and sits pretty under makeup.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What are the best ingredients to look for in a moisturizer with SPF?

Like all sunscreens, a moisturizer with SPF will contain chemical and/or mineral UV filters to protect your skin against the sun's harmful UVA and UVB rays, which can lead to signs of aging, such as fine lines, and, on a larger scale, skin cancer. We adhere to the American Academy of Dermatology’s (AAD) guidelines and only recommend sunscreens with broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher. However, your sunscreen-day cream hybrid will contain at least one of the following ingredients for long-lasting hydration:

    Niacinamide

We consider niacinamide to be one of the gold-standard multitaskers in skin care. This antioxidant, also known as vitamin B3, evens skin tone and minimizes the look of hyperpigmentation while also supplying hydration and supporting the skin barrier. "Niacinamide works with your skin's natural chemistry to improve overall skin texture by rebuilding a lipid layer, minimizing the appearance of pores, and preventing UV damage and inflammation," Seattle-based board-certified dermatologist Brandith Irwin, MD, previously told Allure.

    Hyaluronic acid

Hyaluronic acid is the queen of hydration. This gentle, sensitive-skin-friendly ingredient acts as a powerful humectant, which means it attracts and binds water to the surface layer of skin, therefore hydrating it. "[Hyaluronic acid is] great at holding water and giving skin resilience and firmness," says New York City-based board-certified dermatologist Doris Day, MD.

    Ceramides

To replenish and seal in much-needed moisture, many creams depend on ceramides. "Ceramides are fatty acids in the skin that help to maintain the skin barrier and retain moisture and hydration," Dr. Idriss previously explained to Allure. They're also soothing ingredients to look out for when treating skin conditions like eczema.

How should I apply a moisturizer with SPF?

As with any other sunscreen, you still need to reapply these formulas throughout the day, every two hours, to be specific, to stay protected. (Oh, and wearing sunscreen indoors is also non-negotiable.) Claire Chang, MD, a board-certified dermatologist in New York City, reminds us, "Most adults need about one ounce of sunscreen (a shot glass full) to fully cover the body." For your face and neck, Dr. Chang says that equates to about 0.3 teaspoons, or the size of two nickels. And don't forget commonly missed areas, like your eyelids, ears, and chest.

Is a moisturizer with SPF as good as wearing sunscreen?

As long as the moisturizer in question has the AAD's recommended broad-spectrum SPF 30 rating or higher, and you're applying enough (as outlined above), it's on par. If moisturizers with SPF motivate you to wear the damn SPF, all the more power to you and them.

"Hybrid skin-care products have gained popularity recently as consumers are trying to simplify their skin-care routines," says Dr. Chang. "SPF-infused moisturizers are a direct result of the desire to do more with less." She also reassures us that just because there's an added benefit of broad-spectrum sun protection, it does not mean these moisturizers are thicker in texture or pore-clogging. What's more, she confirms SPF-infused moisturizers are "regulated and tested by the same Food and Drug Administration (FDA) procedures as sunscreens," so they're not more diluted in terms of protection.

How we test and review products

When Allure tests a product, our editors look at it from every angle to best serve you. We review ingredients, scrutinize brand claims, and, when necessary, examine peer-reviewed scientific and medical studies. In addition to testing each and every product that’s included in each and every review, we rely on experts who shape their fields, including dermatology, cosmetic chemistry, and medicine, to help us vet the ingredients and formulas.

For our list of the best moisturizers with SPF, we considered each product’s performance across five primary categories: product ingredients and efficacy, packaging, fragrance, texture, and product wear. Every product was determined to have excelled in each category by our editorial team, which is composed of in-house writers and editors as well as contributors—along with special consideration from board-certified dermatologists. To learn more information on our reporting and testing processes, read our complete reviews process and methodology page.

After all, can we really say a skin-care product is the "best" for people over 50 if the only testers we’ve solicited opinions from folks who have yet to hit 30? Can we honestly deem a high-end diffuser worthy of your hard-earned cash if it’s never been tested on curls? We’re proud that our staff spans a wide range of ages, skin tones, hair textures, genders, and backgrounds, which means that we are able to fairly assess any beauty product that comes into the beauty closet.

If you want to know what the next trending skin-care ingredient is going to be, you should look to the best Korean serums and ampoules. They’re usually the first products on the market to bring the most innovative, future-forward formulas straight to your skin-care routine. For example, K-beauty serums featured the likes of snail mucin and Centella asiatica (a.k.a. cica) long before these ingredients made their way stateside. These days, PDRN injection alternatives, glutathione, and madecassoside are the most sought-after ingredients in Korean serums. (More on those later.)

Like the best Korean skin-care products we’ve come to know and love, Korean serums focus on deeply nourishing skin and preventing signs of aging rather than drying it out with harsh actives and offering quick fixes for pre-existing fine lines and wrinkles. “Plus, Korean serums tend to have a non-sticky, lightweight texture,” says David Kim, MD, a board-certified dermatologist in New York City. “That’s a big reason why so many people really like them.” Most are also fragrance-free and can be used daily, both morning and night.

Allure contributing commerce writer Christa Joanna Lee applying Aestura A-Cica365 Soothing Relief Serum pH4.5

Why we love it: One detail K-beauty has long emphasized is the importance of pH in skin-care formulations. Korean skin care is built around the idea that healthy skin thrives in a slightly acidic environment—roughly pH 4.5 to 5.5—which helps keep the barrier strong and irritation in check. Aestura’s A-Cica365 Soothing Relief Serum pH4.5 is formulated to match that natural acidity, supporting barrier skin while helping calm inflammation and speed recovery when skin is stressed. The serum also leans into classic K-beauty soothers, including Centella asiatica, alongside ceramides and squalane to reinforce the skin barrier.

Need further proof that it's worth your money? “This has been a long-time best seller in Korea and is now finally launching in the US,” says Hee Jin Kim, MD, a board-certified internal medicine physician based in Fort Lee, New Jersey. “What excites me about Korean skin care like this is that it’s not just about stronger actives—it’s about delivery systems, barrier intelligence, and layering strategies that support long-term collagen health.”

Why we love it: Inspired by the timeless beauty ideals of Korea’s Joseon Dynasty (an era that celebrated gyuhap yogo, or graceful, natural elegance), Beauty of Joseon revives traditional hanbang (Korean herbal medicine) with a modern skin-care twist. The brand’s Glow Serum brings that philosophy to life by delivering radiance and renewal in a single silky formula. While best known for its dewy finish, it’s also a stealthy exfoliating treatment. With betaine salicylate (a mild beta-hydroxy acid) to smooth uneven texture and refine pores, plus propolis, niacinamide, and turmeric to calm and brighten, this serum leaves skin balanced and soft.

    Vitamin C Boosting Serum

Why we love it: Dr.Althea’s Vitamin C Boosting Serum is a skin-brightening powerhouse. Its first ingredient is Hippophae rhamnoides (a.k.a. sea buckthorn) water, which is naturally rich in vitamin C. It’s joined by pure vitamin C, niacinamide, and tranexamic acid to diminish dullness, roughness, and dark spots. For those unfamiliar with the latter ingredient, studies have found that tranexamic acid reduces hyperpigmentation by "blocking the interaction between keratinocytes [a.k.a. skin cells] and melanocytes [a.k.a. melanin-producing cells]," Dr. Chang previously told Allure.

What sets this formula apart is its thoughtful balance of efficacy and comfort. “It’s lightweight and gentle, with a noticeably low irritation profile,” says Dr. David Kim, making it a great option even for those who tend to struggle with traditional vitamin C serums. For extra sensitivity, the serum is also available in a lower-potency version with 20% sea buckthorn water instead of 63%.

It covers all the bases for achieving the healthy skin of your dreams: brightening, hydrating, smoothing, and healing. Why we love it: Although retinol is a relatively recent addition to K-beauty’s spotlight, IOPE has been working with this wrinkle-smoothing ingredient for nearly two decades. The brand’s Retinol Super Bounce Serum feels especially future-forward, thanks to a four-retinoid blend—including pure and encapsulated retinol, granactive retinoid, and bio-seletinoid—that delivers a multi-phase approach to firming, plumping, and refining texture. The result is visible smoothing without sacrificing comfort. “This is an excellent retinol option for patients who want to address fine lines and wrinkles with less irritation,” says Dr. Chang, who also calls it “a great entry point” for anyone easing into retinoids. With its cushiony, hydrating feel, the serum helps skin look clearer and more rejuvenated in as little as a week—just don’t skip SPF during the day.

Why we love it: Somehow, Medicube has worked its way into everyone’s TikTok feed, and with formulas like their PDRN Pink Peptide Serum, we understand why. It’s all about helping uneven, tired-looking skin return to a smoother, more balanced state. The hero is salmon PDRN, a K-beauty favorite known for supporting skin repair and improving texture, which helps tone look more even over time. These topical salmon DNA products are “very similar to human DNA and can help with skin quality, luminosity, and texture,” Jennifer Levine, a New York City-based board-certified plastic surgeon, previously told Allure. Niacinamide brightens and smooths, while adenosine and a multi-peptide blend (including copper peptides) support firmer, healthier-looking skin. Hydrators like glycerin and sodium hyaluronate keep skin plump and comfortable, while calming botanical extracts—think rose, turmeric, and holy basil—round out the formula.

The end result feels very on-brand for Medicube: effective, gentle, and focused on real results without overwhelming your skin. P.S. While the serum leans soothing overall, it contains fragrance, which could be sensitizing if your skin is extremely reactive, so don’t forget to patch-test.

The Rose PDRN Firming Serum is designed for mature skin, targeting fine lines, texture changes, and collagen loss without overwhelming sensitive skin. It uses 0.1% retinal—strong enough to smooth wrinkles and encourage renewal, yet carefully balanced for better tolerability. Vegan PDRN, derived from Damascus rose stem cells, which helps support skin regeneration and long-term resilience. And if your skin has struggled with retinol in the past, this one has your back: Adenosine, ceramides, Centella asiatica, and a blend of peptides (including copper peptides) work together to calm, fortify, and firm the skin barrier. Why we love it: Cica is one of the most popular ingredients in Korean skin-care products for several reasons. First and foremost, South Korea has high pollution levels, which cause skin sensitivity, and cica is known to be incredibly calming. Second, it's chock-full of amino acids, beta-carotene, fatty acids, and phytochemicals, including vitamins C, A, B1, and B2, lending itself to a long list of skin-enhancing benefits, like firming, hydrating, smoothing, and blemish fighting, according to Shari Marchbein, MD, a New York City-based board-certified dermatologist.

Why we love it: This PDRN-packed formula was created by the company behind Korea’s most popular PDRN injectable by the same name, Rejuran. While no topical formula will deliver the same intensely rejuvenating, literally skin-deep benefits as the injectable, the Rejuran Turnover Ampoule is a great, more affordable option for those who are needle-shy—like our tester. Plus, it's derm-backed. “It's lightweight, and the PDRN helps with tissue elasticity and hydration,” Dr. David Kim attests. Unsurprisingly, hyaluronic acid steps in to boost hydration even further.

Rejuran actually offers two different formulas: the Turnover Ampoule and Dual Effect Ampoule. While both are formulated with 0.5% c-PDRN, a proprietary marine growth factor once only available via an injectable, the Dual Effect Ampoule is more focused on firming and reducing the look of fine lines. The Turnover Ampoule is better suited for general skin upkeep, meaning hydration and brightening.

Rather than physically or chemically sloughing skin, the lightweight formula works to “even tone, soften the look of dark spots, and bring back clarity over time,” making it a smart option if your skin looks flat but can’t tolerate too much exfoliation, says Dr. David Kim. Hydrators like glycerin and sodium hyaluronate keep skin plump and comfortably dewy, so added radiance never comes at the cost of dryness. Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between serums and ampoules?

Ampoules are typically more concentrated and “deliver results slightly faster than serums,” says Dr. David Kim. However, many Korean ampoules are starting to be labeled as serums these days to make them more approachable and accessible for American K-beauty lovers.

How do I incorporate Korean serums into my skin-care routine?

Like any serum, you should use these after putting on toner. Once you layer it on, you can reach for your favorite eye cream and moisturizer. “Serums have more active ingredients in higher concentration, and they are formulated to either brighten, hydrate, or calm the skin,” Dr. David Kim previously explained. “Then a moisturizer goes on top to lock in the moisture and to repair the skin barrier.”

For our list of the best Korean serums and ampoules, we considered each product's performance across five primary categories: product ingredients and efficacy, packaging, fragrance, texture, and product wear. Every product was determined to have excelled in each category by our editorial team, which is composed of in-house writers and editors as well as contributors—along with special consideration from dermatologists.

Can we honestly deem a high-end diffuser worthy of your hard-earned cash if it's never been tested on curls? We're proud that our staff spans a wide range of ages, skin tones, hair textures, genders, and backgrounds, which means that we are able to fairly assess any beauty product that comes into the beauty closet.
